Complexity in politics

Prime Minister Lee said that graduates have to learn about the "complexity". It seemed that complexity science is now the rage of government and public policy. Link. Is this the reason why many of our government schemes are so convoluted?

Is there a simpler way? Rather than be complex, can we be simple, honest and positive? If we look at the teachings of major religions, we are told to lead our lives in an honest, helpful and compassionate way. They do not teach about the need to be complex.

The PAP Govt is at a loss on how to handle the new "normal" in the political scene here.
Can't keep on sending lawyers' letters to threaten legal action to people with outspoken views on their policies, can't return to LKY's and GCT's days of sueing and bankrupting dissidents and big mouth citizens.
Now trying the softly, softly way, hoping to maintain the power status quo of yester years.

Is it really that complex?

Why not get a 2nd opinion?
Vote Opposition and find out.

It's really that simple.

Unless population is simple , policies then can be simple. Simple polices can easily be gamed by smart people. ie packaging of strata landed homes be built in projects with ‘condominium’ status by developers to be sold to foreigners. Complex problems require complex solutions , every individual singaporean has different circumstances , there is no one simple solution that cures all.

"Taxis taken out of COE bidding process" The Straits Times dated 28 July 2012.

It takes a GE11 to kick some senses into the Govt to stop thinking Singaporeans are stupid and PAP is always RIGHT all the time. I cannot imagine what happen if PAP won all the seats in the last election. My guess is

i) COE system remains leading to high car cost and inflation.

ii) Govt Salary continue to move up

iii) More Old guards remain to carry on the "PAP knows Best, so you can feedback but we will not listen"

iv) HDB continue to have supply shortage.

v) More foreigners for the economy.

vi) Higher bonuses for Cabinet.

vii) More Senior Ministers, MM or even EM.

viii) Govt continue to think they understood the ground while the ground continue to suffer the high cost of living with Grassroot filtering all bad information and only provide good stuff to MPs...
