Town Transport in Java

I passed through a few small towns in Java during my trip to Bandung from Jakarta. In each town, there is a service called "Angkutan Kota" or "Town Transport".

This service uses a passenger van that can take 6 to 8 passengers. The service runs along a designated route. The driver can pick and drop passengers anywhere along the route. The fare is from 50 to 80 cents.

This is similar to the light bus service in Hong Kong. I find it to be quite practical and useful. It has several of the advantages of a taxi and is much more affordable.

I hope that Singapore will adopt a similar service to serve the local town and to bring commuters to the MRT station, bus terminus or town center.

Hi Mr Tan,

Bandung is a nice place, quite cool too up there by the mountainside.

Did you stop by the public hot spa and the private hot spa? Frequented by many locals as their favourite pastime.

Also, Bandang is like a touristy spot for the locals :)

But their strawberry farm located at the lower levels sucks big time :(

Lots of factory outlets with premium brand names too!

Also, the skills of the drivers there and the mode of transport astounds! If you can drive your way there safely, you can drive anywhere in the world. :)

This light bus that can stop anywhere, is actually quite dangerous. Sometimes, the driver is like "king of the street", they can stop immediately to take up passenger. I almost hit them using motorcycle from behind, therefore, I always keep distance with this kind of small bus.
