If you adopt this attitude, things will never change. We will continue to do things blindly and suffer unnecessary inconvenience - just because people in ivory towers decide to impose inconsiderate requirements.
If the requirements are useful, it is a different matter. If they are imposed without thinking and are not useful, why should travellers suffer all the hassle?

The immigration and customs requirements were created more than 100 years ago, when travel was occasional and involve few people. At that time, there were custom controls and protectionism.

The world has changed. Many people travel nowadays, even for short trips. Some cross borders daily.

The immigration and customs controls remain in their old formats, in most cases. It appears that no one is taking the responsibility to ask the question, "Do we still need these requirements?"

I applaud the European Community. They have simplified their procedures. I hope that other countries will do the same. Singapore, who aspires to be a global hub, should set the example and actively promote the simplication of the requirements, and encourage other countries to do likewise.
