Why is life a struggle?

Extract from Tommy Wong's book, "Wisdom on How to Live Life"

Tom: I was told that life is a struggle.
Guru: Life is only a struggle because the world operates on the basis of competition rather than cooperation.
Tom: Can you elaborate?
Guru: You see like you and I, if we take a walk on the basis of cooperation, then we’ll walk at a pace that both of us are comfortable with. We can then also enjoy the scenery on the way.
Tom: Enjoy life.
Guru: So who is the winner?
Tom: We’re both winners.
Guru: But if we take the walk on the basis of competition, then we’ll walk as fast as we can. Both of us will find the walk a struggle and there’s no chance to enjoy the scenery.
Tom: Life becomes a struggle.
Guru: So who is the winner?
Tom: There’s no winner, we’re both losers.
Guru: Exactly, in the world of competitions, even winners are actually losers. That’s why the world is full of losers.
Tom: And that includes the rich and powerful?
Guru: And that includes the rich and powerful!

Life is a struggle when it becomes a competition of race horses with few winners and many losers.

Life will be better if it is a marathon run where some runners will choose to compete against each other while the rest of runners choose to run their own races and at the end of the marathon run there will be more winners than losers.

But the elite losers end up with millions of dollars a year and they can have an airliner retrofitted to bring them back first class to the best facilities for them to enjoy while the poor losers end up pressing the button and the foreign nurses just ignore.

Life is truely a struggle, whether Capitalist, Socialist or Communist systems as long as you are not the Elites or in the Inner Circle of Power.

Fortunately, Life's struggle on earth is temporary if you are struggling, as all things will expire one day whether you are rich and powerful or poor as a church mouse!

The example shows the humane side of the logic. But in reality, there will not be cooperation because it is built into our gentic code, that is survival of the fittest.

The next best thing to do is take the challenge or competition as part and parcel of life, face and accept it with correct mindset and attitude.

May be a better approach in life is to gradually transform from horse race to marathon run towards to later stage of life. Difficult to escape from the reality of horse or rat race when you have a family to feed.

If you make your millions by 35, you can take it easy for the next 55 years. You can do whatever things that you want to do, take as many holidays you like, go back to the uni to pursue your passion, learn to sing etc etc etc.

The chances of making it in life by cruising at a pace you are comfortable is a myth. When you are young, you should challenge yourself to do think outside your comfort zone and not always stay within the pace you are comfortable with!

Life is not a struggle. Life is a challenge and an exciting journey to take since we do not know when it would end. Just find treasures along the journey.

Run when you are young. Slow down to jog when you are older and walk until your legs fail you.

At no time stay within your comfort zone for too long.
