Many people have respect for J.B.Jeyaretnam's unrelentless tenacity to be one of the few opposition fighters for decades.
He was the cockroach that could not be crushed to death.
Being too busy with work and family commitments, and thus letting the PAP full reins to play the political field, we tended to view J.B. a pest too, being influenced by the PAP Govt.
In retrospect, now, remember very vividly the lone forlorn figure,
with his slightly hunched back, walking around alone, or trying to sell his Party's papers either to raise funds or political awareness
for us bodoh Singaporeans at that time, guilt is slowly gnawing us now in our conscience. Alamak, now it is too late to make amends for a fellow citizen who truly had the citizens interest at heart.
Could only hope his filial son has the capacity and capability to carry on his father's legacy, and continue what his father had no time to do, and inherit the same patience and tenacity as the elder one. A tough, arduous journey ahead, that only a saint could endure. The son has a bigger problem. First, being grown up in the West, he has to reprogram himself to the local culture with both his RP's colleagues and the Singaporeans at large. A clash of cultures would impede his work, and make him frustrated. Singaporeans may look and act Western, but scratch under the skin, we are still quite Eastern in outlook and rather conservative, so Western methods may not work. At least not for the next ten years.
God bless J.B. in his other world.

Your struggles and sacrifices would not be in vain as I believe more and more people are beginning to feel that something is seemingly wrong with our current ways of government.

Many pleas and petitions were brushed aside, many sound suggestions and feedbacks were ignored, the worst is our moral values are overshadowed by material values.

I value my vote. I am given a choice and I am not trading it for a selfish reason.

I would like to add. I don't understand how Singapore could allow the Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe's family into our county to obtain medical treatment. This man has brought terrible misery to his country and he detains and tortures people. For all the atrocities he does how can we give him medical treatment. I am so ashamed to be called a Singaporean.
