We should expect 30 covid deaths a month

We should expect 30 covid deaths a month and not worry if it happens. More important, we should avoid over reacting with restrictions that harm peoples' livelihoods and cause other health problems.

Clusters of covid infections at bus interchanges

Many people are worried about the clusters of covid infections at the bus interchanges.

I explain why there is no need to worry. The risk is very low.

I offer this suggestion to deal with the mental stress faced by teachers.

New Zealand has four alert measures for their lockdown measures

New Zealand has four alert levels for their lockdown measures. They are explained here.

Singapore has a convoluted system (which is the hallmark of PAP and LHL).
We started with Dorscon Orange, but never progress to Dorscon Red.
We change to Circuit Breaker, then moved to Phase 2 and Phase 3 and changed to Heightened Alert.
I lost track. Did we have Heightened Alert Phase 2, Phase 2A or whatever?
I prefer a straight forward system, such as the one adopted by New Zealand.

China will regulate online insurance sector

China intends to tighten its regulation on insurance company practices.

I have a large holding in the stock of PICC Property & Casualty Insurance Company.

Here are my plans on this holding.

Unhelpful to use the term "unlinked"

Many people are worried about the large number of "unlinked" cases. But they worry for the wrong reason.

It does not really matter if the case is "linked" or "unlinked".

These unlinked cases are more serious, because they are identified when they appear at the clinic with some symptoms of covid sickness.

In contrast, the "linked" cases are detected through quarantine or isolation, The linked cases are more likely to be mild, i.e. asymptomatic.

I find the classification between "linked" and "unlinked" to be not helpful. It could be possibly misleading.

This classification gave too much importance to safe entry and contact tracing. It distracts from the more important distinction between mild (i.e. asymptomatic) and severe (symptomatic).

Breakdown of daily new cases reported by MOH

In this article, I explain the breakdown of the new covid cases that are reported daily by the Ministry of Health and how I interpret them.

Wisdon of the Crowd: 47% of the respondents said that many Afghans are fleeing the country because they fear for their lives.

Send invoice without encryption

Amazon Web Services (AWS) sent me a monthly invoice in PDF without encryption.

They do not follow the insane practice adopted by Singapore companies to encrypt their invoice with a troublesome password.

It is so troublesome that I refuse to open the PDF and insist that I receive the paper statement.

The Singapore companies must be following some insane regulation issued by the regulator.

Whistle blowing agency

I give this suggestion on a whistle blowing agency to handle abuse of power and corruption.

Whistle blowing channel

This case concerns a LTA senior officer who was able to pressure the contractor to give loans to him.

According to the news report, the contractor initially were not willing to accede to the request, but later, they relented.
I remember that the government introduced laws regarding whistle blowing. Surely, the contractors could have used this facility to alert LTA about the wrong doing?
I recall that a lot of attention was given in the media and also in instructions to businesses to set up the whistle blowing channel.
Why is the whistle blowing facility not being used?
I believe that if the whistle blowing facility is handled effectively, it can be a useful channel to alert the people in charge about wrong doing.

Evacuation from Afghanistan

The Taliban and the US have agreed on a deadline of 31 August for the US and allied forces to evacuate from Afghanistan.

During this time, the Taliban cooperated with the US to ensure a safe passage for the authorized people to travel to the airpor, which is under the control of the US.

The US has requested for an extension of the deadline beyond 31 August.

The Taliban has rejected this request.

Wave of refugees from Afghanistan

There is a large wave of Afghan people who wanted to leave Afghanistan for other countries.

The media portrayed this exodus as fear and distrust of the Taliban that has taken control of Afghanistan.
This probably has some truth.
However, we must not overlook another reason.

Opening the borders and removing the mandatory stay home notice

Many people are worried that the move to open up the border and remove the mandatory stay home notice will lead to high infections, hospitalization and deaths.

I believe that this will not be the case and that the virus will remain under control.

We need to open up the orders to allow normal economic activities to resume as soon as possible.

I give my reasons here.

Use of social media

Social media is an excellent platform to share knowledge and learn the truth.

It is also a platform for people to talk nonsense and show their stupidity. They make comments without understanding the topic.
It is sad that most people chose the negative route.

My view of the Taliban

My positive view about the recent events in Afghanistan is a minority view. Most people hold a negative view.

Deadlock in forming the government in Malaysia

Malaysia is facing a deadlock in selecting its next government.
This shows the flaw of the "democratic system" adopted by many countries in the world.

The political system in China

Someone asked. Who elects the CPC of China. How do they come into power?

TKL replied.
The CPC is enshrined in China's constitution as providing the political leadership.

The selection of leaders is carried out by the members of the CPC using a democratic process within the party.

The advantage of this system is that the party members, which now represents 8% of the population, are politically aware and are dedicated to serve the party and the country.

It is better than giving the voting power to every person, including traitors (who serve the interest of foreign country) and ignorant voters (who can be bribed by corrupt candidates).
