Is the worst over?

Dear Sir
It's nice to read your blog. Just to seek your views:
1) has the worse (financial market) over ?
2) is it time to start investing now or when ?

If you are investing for the long term, 10 years or longer, it is quite safe to start investing now.-

could you advise what is meant by investing in the long term. Example, if I invest in a unit trust fund, say 20k dollars, am I expected to keep investing with a continuous stream over the years or just one time off and hold it over a long term period ?
