General election - 2010 or 2011

A reader asked me to conduct a poll on the current government. I have already done the poll on a few occasions in the past year. I believe that the results would probably be the same. You can view the results here:

Is it still good time to have election?

I think the election should be in September.

Reason: Singapore just celebrate National Day and YOG is just over. If there isn't any major hiccups in YOG and financial outlook, September is the best time to hold the election. If I'm the PAP, I would love to ride on the passing of the late Dr. Goh Keng Swee.

In fact, if there's no National Day or YOG, I think it might be earlier.

Dear Sir,

Will you be running for the next election as opposition? I am sure many of us will be willing to donate to help you with the costs.

GE will probably be held in Sep during 1-week school break. By then will be after YOG publicity and just after the mass propaganda of national day. With the tenuous world economy, unresolved huge amounts of debt still to be de-leveraged, and shakiness in the stock markets, PAP is also worried about 2nd-dip recession in next 6-12 mths. Govt is now getting responses from schools as to their activity schedules for the various school holidays in 2010.

Some civil servants tasked to handle polling day duties have been notified and have to complete a refresher training in June. Btw they are not really "volunteers" -- they are paid attractive rates for 1/2-day duty ($200-$400). So if you see any "official" lounging around on polling day, you should march up to him/her and wake them up!

Just a suggestion maybe a snap survey can be done to see the PAP popularity...it will be great eg
will you vote for PAP or opposition Yes/No immediately show percentage
which opposition you prefer to be voted in

etc ewtc

maybe its time to restart the survey

Presidential or General Election?

General Election: We need to show the Govt that they are being paid too much and not delivering or taking care of citizen adequately.

Presidential: Total waste of time and money to elect a person just to hold a key and cut ribbonssss. Can he say "no" if Govt wants to use reserve? Will he say no to the very people who selected him for the election. $3.5 million a year is just too much for a post without KPI.....

Looking at the current situation, I strongly believe that the Presidential Election will most likely be held in Sept 2010, follow by General Election in Dec 2010 or begin Jan 2011.

Presidential election is held exactly every 6 years and fixed, unlike GE.

They were first held in 1993, then 1999 and 2005.

The next one will be next year 2011.

Definitely a different person (govt favoured one) and there may even be some surprises. Clue: Which minority race had not been represented since 1970?

The problem is there are not enough opposition to stand for each constitutency that was enlarge by ruling party over the year. Hope this time the ruling party can Get a few % less , so the ruling party support rate can fall below 60% else price will increses for every dam thing to support their high salary after election.

When the whole country vote for a person then I believe this person is the most powerful person of the country.

In Singapore, I don't know why am I voting for a President who does nothing much and agreed on everything the cabinet recommends. He is also the person put forward and supported by the cabinet.

You maybe 31 but is there any meaning in voting for President at all.

On GE, you may be ready to vote but if there is no or weak opposition, what can you do? If my estate has respected Opposition like Chiam or Lau or anyone I can recognise and believe they will do a reasonable good job, I will vote for them. As of now, I don't have a good opinion of PAP since the poor management of the Lehman Brothers Minibond/DBS highnotes saga.

As a citizen, it is mandatory to vote, whether you like it or or.

There is no opposition so is a walkover win by ruling party. I am almost 50yrs old & never has a chance to use my voting rights.

I am in my sixties, it is unbelievable, I voted only once.
It is always a walkover whereever I move to, really unbelievable.
How to change Govt when we could not even get to vote, I am tired of this arrogant ruling Party, and hope to vote in this coming GE, God willing, time for a complete change. PAP has lost my trust and
loyalty all these decades.
